“The Khayelitsha mural project gave our community a real sense of ownership. Every tile tells a story — my children still point out the pieces they helped cut.”
“The restoration team at Groot Constantia treated every fragment with care. They matched the original glazes so precisely you can’t tell where the new work begins.”
“Our students were completely absorbed. The workshop series gave them a hands-on connection to South African art history they’d never experienced before.”

Quick answers about our workshops, projects, and materials.
Not at all. Our workshops are designed for all skill levels. Beginners learn basic cutting and setting techniques, while more experienced participants can explore advanced patterns and grouting. We provide all materials and guidance.
We specialize in collaborative public murals, heritage tile restoration, and school-based programs. Each project is tailored to the group’s size, location, and goals. Recent examples include a 30-meter mural in Khayelitsha and a conservation project at Groot Constantia.
A single workshop session runs 2–3 hours. Larger community murals can take several weeks of planning and installation. School programs are structured across a term, with weekly sessions and a final exhibition. We’ll give you a clear timeline before starting.
We use reclaimed ceramic tiles, stained glass, and vitreous glass. All materials are non-toxic. For heritage projects, we source historically accurate glazes and adhesives. Safety equipment like gloves and goggles is provided during cutting and grinding.
Yes. We create custom pieces for private clients, including wall panels, tabletops, and garden features. The process starts with a consultation to discuss design, size, and budget. We’ll then provide a quote and a timeline for completion.
You can reach us by phone at 0359461185 or email at info@themosaicstudy.com. We typically respond within one business day. For large projects, we may schedule a site visit to discuss details in person.
